Ankle injuries constitute 10-35% of all sports injuries.
• Every year, more than 1 million people in the world consult a doctor because of ankle injury.
• It is the type of injury that causes the most loss of game time among all sports.
• Most football 71.3 IN THE SEASON
• Ankle sprains occur in 27,000 people a day and 850,000 people a year in the United States.
• The most common position among ankle injuries is the outward rotation of the foot, resulting in partial or complete rupture of the ligament called the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). This accounts for 85% of all ankle injuries.
• After this rupture, edema, swelling, redness or bruising, temperature increase and pain occur on the outside of the ankle.
• Especially lack of balance, lack of sense of position, lack of strength in ankle stabilizer muscle, body and foot mechanics disorder pave the way for this problem. Insufficient warm-up period
• Unsuitable surfaces and floors
• Insufficient warming up
• Type of sport: movement difficulty in sports; jumping, sudden turning, contact(58%)-incontact(17.7%)
• Medial arch height
• The excess or severity of these symptoms indicates the severity of the injury.
• With this injury, syndesmos tear, posterior talofibular ligament, calcanofibular ligament, or deltoid ligament tear, which forms the inner ligaments of the wrist, can increase the severity of the condition and prolong the healing time.
• First degree strain: The integrity of the ankle ligament is preserved and the ligament is stretched, slight swelling and pain occur in the ankle with average. The athlete returns to the sport within 1 week.
• 2nd degree tear: A partial tear has occurred in the ankle ligament. Apart from edema, bleeding, temperature increase, more severe pain and limitation of movement occur. The athlete returns to sports in 2-3 weeks.
• 3rd degree tear: although it is called the last total ligament rupture according to some literature, it is called almost complete tear in some sources. The average time to return to sports varies between 4-6 weeks.
